Alister Edgar McGrath FRSA is an Irish theologian, Anglican priest, intellectual historian, scientist, and Christian apologist. He is Professor Emeritus of Science and Religion and Emeritus Fellow of Harris Manchester College at the University of Oxford. He holds three doctorates from the University of Oxford: a DPhil in Molecular Biophysics, a Doctor of Divinity in historical and systematic theology, and a Doctor of Letters in intellectual history and science and religion.

McGrath was previously Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion at Oxford (2014–2022), Professor of Theology, Ministry, and Education at King’s College London (2008–2014), Professor of Historical Theology at Oxford (1999–2008), and Principal of Wycliffe Hall, Oxford (1995–2004). He is noted for his work in historical theology, systematic theology, and the relationship between science and religion, as well as his writings on apologetics. He is also known for his opposition to New Atheism and his advocacy of theological critical realism. Among his best-known books are The Twilight of Atheism, The Dawkins Delusion, Dawkins’ God: Genes, Memes, and the Meaning of Life, and A Scientific Theology. He is ordained within the Church of England.
