
Leshner, Alan
Alan is Chief Executive Officer of the American Academy for Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world\'s largest, multi-disciplinary scientific and engineering society, and Executive Publisher of Science magazine, perhaps the most prestigious professional science publication in the world (along with Nature). A neuroscientist with a doctorate in physiological psychology, he was the former Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse at NIH (which supports over 85% of the world\'s research on the health aspects of drug abuse and addiction). Alan\'s research has focused on the biological bases of behavior. He is the author of a major textbook on the relationship between hormones and behavior, and over 50 scientific book chapters and papers in professional journals. He writes extensively in the areas of science and technology policy, science education, and public engagement with science.
