Gingerich, Owen
Owen is Professor Emeritus of Astronomy and of the History of Science at Harvard University and senior astronomer emeritus at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. His research interests have ranged from the recomputation of an ancient Babylonian mathematical table to the interpretation of stellar spectra. He is considered the leading authority on the 17th-century German astronomer Johannes Kepler and on Nicholas Copernicus, the 16th- century cosmologist who proposed the heliocentric system. Due largely to Gingerich’s work, Copernicus’ De revolutionibus has been researched and cataloged better than any first-edition historical text except for the original Gutenberg Bible. Owen is the author of God’s Universe, which seeks to reconcile modern astronomy with a Divine Creator.
